Is Edge Hudson Yards worth it
Yes if you want a genuine outdoor sky deck experience. Edge is the only NYC observation deck where you can stand on a platform extending into open air. The triangular geometry is photogenic, the glass floor section is unique in the city, and the western views over the Hudson River at sunset are arguably the best in Manhattan.
The visit is recommended for first time visitors comfortable with heights, photographers, and architecture enthusiasts. Less suited for visitors with vertigo or fear of heights.
Types of tickets
Edge Hudson Yards has three main ticket categories.
- General admission $43: Timed entry to the outdoor sky deck.
- Express pass $77: Skip every queue, including security and elevator.
- City Climb $185: Guided exterior climb to the building peak. Add-on to general admission.
Best time to visit
Sunset is the iconic Edge moment. Western orientation means the sky is set on fire over New Jersey while Manhattan glows behind you. Book the slot 1 hour before sunset, allow 30 minutes for the deck. Sunset slots sell out 2 weeks ahead in summer.
For families, mid-morning (10am to 11am) is the calmest. For couples, 9pm to 11pm offers the best city-lights atmosphere with smaller crowds than peak sunset.
How to get there
The entrance is at 30 Hudson Yards (corner of 33rd Street and 10th Avenue). Subway: 34th Street Hudson Yards on the 7 train, terminating right at the building. From Penn Station it is a 12 minute walk west. From Times Square allow 15 minutes by subway.
Combo passes that include Edge
Edge Hudson Yards is included in the Sightseeing Pass and Go City Explorer Pass. CityPASS does not yet include Edge in its standard package but does include it in some C3 select-3 combinations. The City Climb add-on is always paid separately.
