Queens Travel Guide 2026: What to See, Eat and Where to Stay
Is Queens worth visiting?
Yes, and it is the best value day in New York. Queens has the city's most authentic food, a 897-acre park with a giant globe, and a Manhattan skyline view that costs nothing. Eat meals for half of the Manhattan price. Skip it only if your trip is under three days and you came strictly for Broadway and skyscrapers.
Queens is also huge.Do not try to see it all in a single afternoon.
When to go
The best window is mid-May to June and September to October. Summer gets hot, humid and expensive during the US Open, which runs late August into early September 2026. Winter is quiet and cheap, and the food scene does not care about the weather.
| Season | Months | Weather | Crowds | Prices | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Spring | Mar-May | Cool to mild, some rain | Low | Mid | Good for walking tours |
| Summer | Jun-Aug | Hot, humid, 28-33°C | High near US Open | High | Fun, crowded |
| Fall | Sep-Nov | Mild and crisp | Busy early September | High | Best all-round |
| Winter | Dec-Feb | Cold, 0-5°C, some snow | Low | Low | Best hotel deals |

How many days do you need?
At least two full days. Day one for Flushing and the World's Fair grounds, day two for Long Island City and Astoria. A third day lets you slow down in Jackson Heights and catch a ferry back to Manhattan. One day still beats zero, but you will end up rushing the food.
If you only have one day, spend it on the 7 train. Start in Jackson Heights, eat lunch there, then ride to Flushing for the park and the Queens Museum, and finish with sunset at Gantry Plaza State Park.
3-day itinerary
- Day 1, Flushing. 9 AM start at Flushing-Main Street station, the end of the 7 train. 10 AM walk the park and the Unisphere for about an hour. 11:15 AM visit the Queens Museum for the Panorama, about 45 minutes. 12:30 PM eat on Prince Street, dumplings or hand-pulled noodles, and go before 12:45 PM to beat the queue. 2 PM wander Main Street and the covered market near the station. 4 PM, if it is a Saturday, hit the Queens Night Market. It is cashless, arrive before 6 PM, and most dishes run around 5-6 USD.
- Day 2, Long Island City and Astoria. 10 AM at MoMA PS1 for 2 hours. 12:30 PM take the N or W train to Astoria and have lunch, Greek or Egyptian, pick wherever looks full of locals. 2 PM visit the Museum of the Moving Image, or walk to Socrates Sculpture Park if you want to stay outside. 4 PM reach Gantry Plaza State Park for the skyline. 5:30 PM take the NYC FerryNYC FerryThe commuter ferry network linking Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and Manhattan piers at near-subway fares. from Gantry to Wall Street, around 4-5 USD, and watch Manhattan drift past.

Walk along Roosevelt Avenue and its side streets, where the food smells start early. 10:30 AM have a proper South Asian or Mexican breakfast. 1 PM lunch at another spot, the area rewards slow grazing. 3 PM head back on the 7 train to Manhattan, or to LaGuardia if your flight is early. If you have two extra hours, ride the ferry from Astoria to Lower Manhattan instead.
Where should you stay in Queens?
Stay in Long Island City if you want hotel comfort and Manhattan views. Stay in Astoria for food streets and a neighborhood feel. Jackson Heights saves money but has fewer real hotels. Flushing makes sense near LaGuardia and for the best Chinese food in the United States.

|---|---|---|---|
| Long Island City | Modern towers, skyline views, easy Manhattan access | 220-350 USD | First-timers, business travelers |

Getting around
The subway is the main tool. Tap your phone or contactless card at the turnstile.
The 7 train runs across northern Queens from Manhattan, passing through Long Island City, Jackson Heights and Flushing. It runs every 3-5 minutes in rush hour and it is packed, but it is fast. The N and W cover Astoria. The E, F, M and R cover central Queens.
The NYC Ferry runs from Long Island City to Manhattan, around 4-5 USD. It is slower than the subway but far prettier. The Long Island Rail Road connects Woodside, Forest Hills and Flushing to Penn Station, around 7-10 USD and about 20 minutes, which beats the subway for speed.
JFK uses the AirTrainAirTrain JFKThe automated rail link connecting JFK terminals to the subway at Jamaica and Howard Beach. to Jamaica station, around 8 USD, then a subway or LIRR connection. LaGuardia connects to the subway system by the Q70Q70 LaGuardia LinkThe free express bus connecting LaGuardia Airport to the subway and LIRR at Jackson Heights and Woodside. bus. Avoid driving. Parking in Jackson Heights and Flushing is brutal, and tolls add up fast.
